We're back on track with weekly meetings so today we had only a few bugs to triage and the meeting was a brisk 16 minutes long.
Issue triage
Bug 4780 | wix 4.0.2926.0 fails to install was reopened with a comment about an unrelated potential bug. We asked the user to head to the (shiny) (new) wix-users mailing list with logs to help diagnose the problem.
Bug 4836 | "'darice.cub' cannot be found" error pops up randomly was reopened with a comment pointing to a similar open bug that suggests the problem isn't as environmental-only as we might have thought. However, as we're still not sure how WiX is involved, we asked the reporter to provide logs to help diagnose the problem. (Hey, that's a theme with setup—"logs or it didn't happen.")
Bug 4839 | Regression causing network performance degredation when checking remote payload hash is a bug that we're keeping untriaged (again) until Rob confirms the bug still exists.
Bug 4850 | Heat fails with error HEAT5305, when interpreting a path in an imported .targets file came in last week and the user came back with additional details that appear to exactly pinpoint the problem. It's a minor edge case with a workaround so we decided against trying to fix it for WiX v3.10.
Bug 4852 | QuietExec function prototype breaking change to 3.10? reports that the signature of the QuietExec function in the DUtil native SDK changed in WiX v3.10 and that broke the build of a custom action that used it. The perpetrators of that particular change have been identified, publicly shamed, and assigned to fix it for WiX v3.10.
WiX v3.10
As we took bug 4852 for WiX v3.10, that left us four bugs remaining for WiX v3.10. A few quick code reviews after the meeting left us with two. That means that we have one more release candidate build for WiX v3.10 and hope to have it out next week. With a little luck and appeals to the ancient gods of software releases, we might still release WiX v3.10 this month. If not this month, though, it should happen no later than early September. Given that Visual Studio 2015 just released a few weeks ago, I'm still pretty happy with the way WiX v3.10 has progressed.
