We missed our last meeting because Rob was attending a wedding (not his) and we had only a few bugs to triage. So, karmically, we had a surge of bugs in the last two weeks for today's meeting. And more than a couple were doc bugs -- also, perhaps, karmically.
Issue triage
Adding to the WiX Documentation, from @tsahi, complains of missing documentation...on documentation itself. The reporter also provided a pull request to complete the missing bits, which Rob merged.
Documentation on how to install a windows service is missing, from @tsahi, points out that there is no how-to about installing a Windows service -- and includes a pull request to add it. I took this issue to review the pull request and apply wordsmithing as appropriate.
Heat Documentation Update and Re-organization, from @ryatpronk, requests changes to the Heat.exe documentation. We opened the issue in WiX v3.x for someone interested in improving the documentation to tackle.
Clarification to documentation article "Integrating WiX Projects Into Daily Builds", from @hickford, is yet another documentation issue in this meeting, reporting a confusing aspect of this particular topic on including WiX binaries in source control. I volunteered to take a look.
Strange RichEdit behavior in Burn with Turkish keyboard, from @denis-gz, reports a bug obscure enough to deserve extra Internet points. WixStdBA's use of the older rich-edit control interface exposes a rich-edit control bug in keyboard handling. The reporter included a suggested fix, which we decided should go into WiX v4.0.
wix3.11 creates wixproj with
3.10 , from @se-sss, reports that the template .wixproj project files in the Votive Visual Studio extension, include an old WiX version number. It's not used currently, so it's just a distraction -- luckily one that Rob volunteered to resolve.Convert All Wix Documentation Into Wiki, from @ryatpronk, requests the WiX documentation be made into a Wiki. StackOverflow seems to have replaced Wikis in terms of group voting and editing. Rob hinted he had some ideas about documentation he wanted to talk about at our next meeting, so this issue is in his hands until then.
Burn: Patches fail to install when multiple patches present, from @GregDomjan, reports a potentially interesting problem with Burn and patching, but doesn't provide enough information to do anything other than worry there might be a bug lurking. We asked for more information and will follow up then.
