In an ongoing trend of alternating meetings with few and many issues to triage, today we had only a couple issues to triage and spent a bit of time talking about the one-hopes-to-be-imminent release of Votive for Visual Studio 2019.
Issue triage
Burn implementation hangs on pipe.Write(), from @skylarnam, was an issue with follow-up on the wix-devs mailing list and in-person follow-up with Rob when he was around the Microsoft campus seeking help with Votive (see below). At the moment, the onus is on the reporter to debug the issue and pending a conclusion that there's a bug in Burn, we closed the issue. Naturally, we will reopen if there's a bug.
Bundle doesn't detect earlier bundle with BundleUpgradeCode in different GUID style, from @nirbar, reports that Burn won't upgrade bundles with slightly different formatting for the GUID in a bundle's upgrade code. As the compiler normalizes GUIDs, we're a bit flummoxed as to why formatting would matter. We asked for logs to see if we can conjure an explanation.
Votive v1
Rob was able to corner the Microsoft experts on Visual Studio extensibility and their bestowed wisdom allowed him to make the Votive templates show up organized and pretty. Therefore, with a bit of fanfare, we're pleased to announce the release candidate of Votive v1 for Visual Studio 2019 (and prior versions). You can download it here. Please let us know how it goes -- good and bad! -- on the wix-users mailing list.
