Today marks the 200th WiX Online Meeting. Our first meeting was in August 2013 and we've averaged a bit more than one meeting every fortnight since. That is an accomplishment worth celebrating...which I'm doing by writing these highlights. Enjoy!
Issue triage
Proposed Change: Add custom action and launch condition that handles .NET Core 3.1 / .NET 5.0 runtime install checks, from @MSLukeWest, is an issue in active discussion about ways of detecting .NET Core runtime compatibility in an MSI package. A parallel effort is ongoing to detect .NET Core and handle installing the runtime in a bundle. We decided we'd take the work in WiX v3.14 as long as it's done in WiX v4.0 first.
PDF User Documentation, from @mbarnet, requests the WiX documentation as a PDF. That's not something the team is deeply interested in providing but of course anyone is welcome to use the documentation, schemas, and tools, all according to WiX's open-source license.
RegistryValues to the same registries cause LGHT0001, from @ElectricErger, is a two-fer: There's a bug in the WiX Tutorial hosted by FireGiant and an exception that's getting thrown for authoring that compiles successfully. Both are intolerable and I will crush them both.
WiX v4 design discussions
With a few more issues assigned to the Preview Zero milestone, we're down a bit to 36 bugs to hit Preview Zero. We discussed the remaining open issue:
I did my best to disrupt Sean and Rob's discussion but in the end, we came up with a good solution and that brings us to the US Thanksgiving holiday to implement and fix Preview Zero issues.
